Tranquil Retreat at Northern Lights Aurora

Looking for an Airbnb retreat to host our annual girls' winter getaway weekend is often a challenge that comes with many questions and late-night texts. Where should we go? What activities are available nearby? Is there enough space for everyone? And, of course, can I bring the dogs?

This year's dilemma was much the same; however, after much back and forth, we finally decided on western Wisconsin for our destination. I know, I know. Wisconsin in the winter is risky. Cold temperatures. Potential for snow. But we decided to go for it anyway and brave whatever came our way.

Once the group decided on the location, the next big task, and probably the biggest, was finding a place to stay. We all have similar tastes in amenities; everyone wanted quiet, starry nights, so that meant finding a cabin or home away from it all. However, we needed something that was reasonably priced and had room for everyone, including the dogs.

It was one of my friends who sent an early morning text with the listing for Northern Lights Aurora near Lake Holcombe in Wisconsin. After a quick glimpse at the pictures and a short scan of the reviews, I was sold and replied with a simple "book it."

And that's how we came to stay at Northern Lights Aurora hosted by Laura and Paul. Their newly built, country escape seemed tailor-made for our group and the pups. I was so impressed by all of the little dog-friendly touches that were placed throughout the house—water bowls, dog bed, towels, and treats. Not only did I feel at home, but the dogs did too.

With three bedrooms and two full bathrooms, there was ample room for everyone to have their own space. Each night we ate dinner at the large kitchen table, and breakfast was served each morning at the oversized island. Lounging in front of the fireplace after hiking at a nearby state park was heavenly. Add in a huge yard, and the dogs had plenty of space to roam.

Staying at a dog-friendly, clean, comfortable place is a traveler's dream, but it was made even more pleasant because of the communication from the hosts. Any questions we had were answered within an hour, sometimes less. Laura also made a point to make sure we had settled in alright and were experiencing a five-star stay. Yes, absolutely we did, Laura! Thank you for hosting us, and we will be back!
