A Dog-Friendly Basecamp Near Haskins Ford, MO

Theodosia, MO This small town, with approximately 200 people and located just a few minutes southwest of Haskins Ford, provides everything you need for a quick stop to grab essentials or a longer stay to explore the area.

There are two gas stations, a grocery store, and a Dollar General, and prices here are about the same as in a larger town without a longer drive. We have found everyone to be exceptionally friendly and willing to answer questions about the area and the lake, and it's always great to support local businesses and the residents.

If you still need to stretch your legs or just want to take your pups for a quick walk away from the water, there is a small walking trail located slightly east of Lutie School in Theodosia. The trail is short, but we have walked it a few times, and it's safe and away from other dogs and cars.

Theodosia Marina-Resort (dog-friendly)  For anyone looking to rent a boat or stay right near Bull Shoals Lake, we recommend stopping off at Theodosia Marina-Resort. The marina also has a great little store for buying clothing to remember your time on Bull Shoals. I've picked up a few sweatshirts, a jacket, and some lounge pants over the years as we have passed through, and everything has been of great quality and reasonably priced.

If you need boating essentials, they have a few things in stock here as well, such as sunscreen, life jackets, sun shirts, and towels. The store even allowed us to bring the two pups inside because it wasn't very busy.

If you do visit the store, we would recommend buying a bag of fish food and feeding the carp that hang out at the marina. It was entertaining for us, and the dog were fascinated with watching the fish gobble up the treats!

If you are hungry, be sure to stop and eat at Cookie's Restaurant, which is located right next to the marina. It's simply good food, a casual atmosphere, and great views overlooking Bull Shoals Lake.

Tips for Traveling with the Dogs

• Pack Essentials: Bring water, bowls, food, leashes, and life jackets. Don’t forget a towel or two to dry the dogs off after a swim.

• Check Pet Policies: Before booking at Theodosia Marina-Resort, ask about their pet policy and fees as these are subject to change.

• Keep Your Dog Safe: Haskins Ford, Bull Shoals Lake, Theodosia, and Theodosia-Marina-Resort are all public areas. There may be other dogs and cars in the area, so always be aware of your surroundings and always keep dogs on a leash.
